Your commercial plumbing might be out of sight, but as a vital part of keeping your business running, it shouldn’t be out of mind. Imagine if corroded sewer pipes were seeping into your foundation, or your compromised stormwater drain was causing flooding on your premises.

Commercial plumbing assets are often within or underneath your premises, which makes repairs a costly, time-consuming and destructive venture. However, you can minimise the potential negative effects of conventional repairs by leveraging Nuflow’s commercial pipe relining solutions.

What is pipe relining?

Cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP) relining is different to traditional commercial plumbing services. It involves installing advanced composite resin into a damaged pipe, essentially creating a pipe within a pipe. The new relined section is fixed better than new, improving the flow rate and lifetime of your commercial pipes.

Our CIPP relining is particularly effective due to the fact we are the only Australian reliners who develop our own resins in-house. Our solutions are custom designed by a team of chemists and engineers implementing cutting-edge technology to suit the specific requirements of clients across Australasia.

The benefits of commercial pipe relining for commercial pipe problems

Commercial pipe relining is more than just a quick-fix solution. It is an innovative, customisable and effective alternative to pipe replacements. Let’s investigate the benefits it could bring to your organisation.

Less costs to your operations

Pipe relining removes the need to knock down walls, dig trenches, or destroy any part of your property. Our products and processes have been specifically designed to enable you to maintain your operations throughout the relining process. Your local Nuflow will sit down with you to develop an installation plan that ensures your operational needs are met and tailor our approach accordingly. Because of this process, we find that most of our repairs can be completed within a day.

This saves you from downtime expenses or the costs it would take to restore your infrastructure, not to mention what you save on labour. Depending on your site characteristics, you can save anywhere between 10% to 75% with Nuflow’s services.

Suited for a variety of issues

No matter what commercial plumbing issues your business is facing, Nuflow can help. Pipes come in all different shapes, sizes and materials, and our composite materials and linings can be custom-designed to ensure a solution. We can even perform repairs for junctions, laterals, dead ends, and patch relining.

Just some of the commercial pipe repairs we provide include:

  • Cracks in stormwater drains or sewer pipes of new developments
  • Internal fire or water systems in corporate offices suffering from deterioration
  • Water mains and similar piping
  • Reactive repairs for commercial plumbing projects
  • Rural and farming assets
  • Commercial and corporate facilities like shopping centres, hotels, theatres, etc.
  • Public utilities and facilities like pools, drainage infrastructure, community centres and more.

Compliance with industry and safety standards

With our materials produced in-house, we ensure all are manufactured to meet the requirements of the ISO:9001 Quality Management System. Products are also independently tested to ensure they meet international standards, including approval for potable water applications. This means that you can trust in the quality of the materials we use and that they are more than up to the task of repairing your infrastructure.

We can also promise the safety of you and your people when we are onsite. We pride ourselves on adhering to strict WorkSafe practices by prioritising the safety of our workers and everyone around us. This is built into the approach to every job.

Less environmental impact

If your business is seeking to be more environmentally friendly or you have set certain environmental obligations within your organisation, investing in pipe relining from Nuflow is a smart choice.

Our processes mean no digging or excavation, thereby eliminating environmental damage. Plus, without the need for big machines to carry out excavation, we produce significantly less carbon emissions. Our resins are also environmentally friendly and offer no impact to the surrounding ecosystem.

Gain visibility over your assets

Along with our commercial relining, we can conduct proactive maintenance that helps you understand the shape of your plumbing. This includes an audit of your systems, with provided CCTV footage, identification of damage or deterioration, and a full report. The report details tailored recommendations for approaching repairs based on the potential consequences of certain pipes failing.

During and after the relining process, we also produce detailed reports, footage and information on the job for your reference. To streamline this process, we developed a quality assurance application that logs all materials used and assists in registering your warranties. With our warranties being up to 50 years long, we consider it essential that these documents are thoroughly recorded and that you have easy access to them.

Access the expertise of a fully qualified team

The Nuflow network is expansive and filled with fully trained, qualified commercial plumbers and installers. All technicians are licensed and insured and are required to conduct continual product and workplace training. This ensures they can maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of our processes and products, as well as deliver solutions that take your specific needs into account.

We combine our collective expertise with knowledge and insight sharing across the network. This helps us share complex solutions and gives clients across the continent the same high-value service.

Summer is finally here! It’s the season of backyard BBQs, beach days, and pool time fun. However, the activities that take place in the warmer weather, and the climate itself, can lead to a set of unique summer plumbing problems.

Without the right preparation and attention, these issues could become something much bigger and impact your summer enjoyment. That’s why we wanted to offer our knowledge and help you figure out how to both prevent and remedy the plumbing difficulties you’re most likely to encounter. Here are 6 of the most significant plumbing problems and their relevant solutions.

1. Blocked gutters

The hot summer weather means dead and dry leaves can make their way into your gutters. Not only is this an eyesore, when debris accumulates it can stop your gutters from functioning the way they need to. During a summer storm, overflow may spill into your yard and cause damage or flooding to your property. Debris can make its way into your downpipes and accumulate in your storm drain, causing serious blockages during heavy rainfall.

Solution

Well before the full swing of summer, you should ensure your gutters are as clear as possible. From there, you need to conduct ongoing maintenance throughout the season to prevent things building up over time. If you’re unable to do this safely, a plumber or drain specialist can handle this for you. While they’re there, it’s a good idea to get your drains and downpipes inspected for any leaks or blockages to ensure everything is working correctly.

2. Clogged toilets

School holidays start over the summer, which means your kids are home a lot more often. It’s also likely you’ll have people over more consistently. All of this means a lot more work for your poor toilet.

With more toilet paper heading down your pipes, the chances of things getting clogged are heightened. No one wants to deal with a backed-up toilet, so here are a few things you can do.

Solution

If you have younger kids, make sure they know the proper bathroom etiquette. The last thing you need is food and toys blocking your sewer pipes. Likewise, ensuring that toilet paper is the only thing going down there can help prevent big build-ups. Even ‘flushable’ wipes may not disintegrate as promised and cause a blockage.

In the event that something does cause a clog, try out your luck with a plunger. If that doesn’t work, don’t leave it and hope that it sorts itself out – this can lead to a much bigger problem. In this situation, you should definitely call in a professional.

3. Slow draining showers

Outdoor adventures are a summer time staple. Maybe you’re going to a beach, a local waterway, or even a park. A lot of fun memories are made through these experiences, and so are build-ups in your shower. With people outdoors a lot more, there is more to clean off in the shower. Extra dirt, debris, and sand can accumulate in your shower drain and cause it to empty a lot slower.

Solution

Give your drains a clean at the start of summer so anything you wash down doesn’t add to what’s already there. You can also call a professional to look at the state of your shower drain and clear anything out before it becomes a bigger problem.

Then throughout the season, it’s a good idea to rinse off as much as you can before getting into the shower. This reduces the debris being washed down your drain and can help prevent things from getting blocked.

4. Dripping outdoor taps

Your outdoor taps get used a lot during the heat, whether it’s for washing the car, watering your garden, or just summer fun shenanigans. This extra use can mean that your faucet’s washer undergoes a bit of wear and tear and can result in it leaking. Otherwise, the pipeline leading to your tap may have moved around or even frozen during winter, resulting in cracks along it somewhere. This makes a leak a little harder to detect, but you’ll soon learn from your water bill.

Solution

If your tap is leaking, ensure that the rubber washer is in good condition and that the faucet is sealed to the wall. If that doesn’t fix it, calling in a plumber to fix any potential pipeline issues can save you utility expenses in the long run and be better for the environment.

5. Tree root intrusion

We all need a little extra water in summer, and so do the trees around your home and pipes. In warmer weather, tree roots will seek out groundwater further down in the soil. Unfortunately, they usually end up finding your pipes instead, where they make their way inside through small fissures and cracks. This causes blockages throughout your drainage systems, waterlines, and sewers.

Solution

There often isn’t much you can do in the way of initial prevention of tree root intrusion, aside from being ready to call in someone to help at the first sign of trouble. Professionals can conduct a CCTV inspection to confirm the source and location, and then get things removed for you.

If you find this becomes an ongoing issue, there are a few things you can do. One is to remove the offending tree, which isn’t ideal, and the other is to reline your pipes with advanced materials. With Nuflow’s CIPP relining technology, our tough composite resins are resistant to tree root intrusion and can stop them from invading your pipes.

We have been blessed with a pretty amazing planet, and it’s our job to take care of it. Even the smallest decisions and changes in habits can help lessen the environmental impact of our day to day.

Take your pipes and drains. These are something you use daily, whether it’s to wash your hands, clean your dishes, or take a shower after a long day. If you can take steps to be more sustainable and environmentally conscious in this space, it can go a long way in reducing your footprint.

Why is it important to lessen environmental impact?

We only get one earth, so it’s important to do our bit to preserve our natural resources and ecosystems as much as possible. For example, taking steps to save water can reduce the strain on local water sources as well as the energy used to treat and transport it. This can also help minimise gas emissions that impact our atmosphere.

If everyone is able to make small changes, it can add up to a big difference that helps maintain balance and reduce the effects of climate change. It can even benefit our health by reducing pollution and any toxic chemicals we might be exposed to.

Practising more sustainable plumbing is one great way you can help reduce environmental impact. Here’s how.

5 ways you can be more environmentally conscious with your pipes and drains

Water drain down on a stainless steel kitchen sink hole

1. Use a drain strainer

A lot of yucky stuff can make its way into your pipes when it’s washed down your drain. Hair, chunks of food, oil, grease, garbage and more can start to culminate and cause blockages in your pipeline. If these blockages add up, they can put pressure on your pipes and eventually result in them bursting. This means a lot of water is wasted and could even impact ecosystems by flooding certain areas, or release untreated sewage into waterways. Not to mention the resources that are used up to get this repaired.

Plus, the more debris that makes its way into your systems the higher the chance it has of polluting water or being eaten by an unsuspecting animal. By using a drain strainer, you can help to minimise the chance of this happening.

2. Keep your pipes clean and clear

Sometimes blockages happen, no matter how many drain strainers you use. We’ve already discussed how bad blockages can be when left to build up, so when they do occur you should get things cleaned and cleared as soon as you can. Try and use an environmentally-friendly drain cleaner since chemical options can be harmful to the environment and your pipes. Some natural alternatives like baking soda, lemon juice and vinegar are great options.

If this doesn’t work, never fear. Call in a professional to help. At Nuflow, we use a high-pressure cleaning system to easily blast blockages away. You can find out more about clearing your blocked drains here.

3. Get your pipes inspected regularly

Pipe problems aren’t always visible. You might not easily notice things like blockages further down the pipeline, leaking pipes, or broken assets but they can still have a significant environmental impact. Large amounts of water can be wasted, and if waste from systems like sewers leaches into the surrounding soil it can become a biohazard that affects the ecosystem.

With regular pipe inspections, you can prevent minor issues from snowballing into much larger problems, and identify broken and leaking plumbing before things escalate. Nuflow uses top-of-the-line CCTV drain inspection technology that identifies the exact nature and location of a problem, enabling us to easily find a solution.

4. Don’t pay the price of a replacement

If your pipes are damaged, it won’t just be your wallet that is impacted by a full replacement. The impact of construction on the environment is significant, and replacing pipes involves extensive excavation that disrupts the surrounding ecosystem and displaces flora and fauna. Plus, it requires the use of heavy machinery with large CO2 emissions that make their way into the atmosphere. All around, it’s not a great option for the environment.

Pipe relining is a fantastic, no-dig alternative. Not only does it eliminate the need for construction, it reduces the amount of waste. At Nuflow, our fit-for-purpose solutions are made to the exact specifications of each job. That means we only engineer the resin we need to reline the diameter of the pipe and nothing more. Plus, there’s no pipe to dispose of when we’re done, so there’s less rubbish making its way into landfills. Discover more about the environmental benefits of pipe relining.

5. Dispose of hazardous materials appropriately

You shouldn’t treat your drain as a garbage disposal. Pouring things like batteries, paint, chemicals and medications down your sink is a big no-no and can be extremely harmful to the environment. If they make their way into waterways, they can contaminate water supplies and harm aquatic life. You need to dispose of them safely, like at a designated recycling centre. That way, you can reduce your environmental impact and practise greater sustainability.

Practise sustainable plumbing with Nuflow

We can help you do everything you need to be more environmentally conscious with your pipes and drains. From inspections, to drain cleaning, to pipe relining, our systems and processes offer great options for reducing environmental impact and contributing to a better, greener world. Talk to us today.

It always feels good to start the new year with everything in order, whether it be deep cleaning your home or recalculating your business budget. But what about your pipes? These are important assets that are integral to a well-functioning home or business and could cause major headaches if neglected.

By conducting effective yearly maintenance on your plumbing systems, you can help ensure that everything works the way it should and set yourself up for an easy-flowing year. Let’s investigate why this is important.

The importance of regular pipe and plumbing maintenance

More efficient functioning

When blockages, leaks or other damages are impacting your pipes, it means your plumbing system isn’t able to function effectively. This results in clogged toilets, overfilling drains, poor water pressure and other issues that you don’t want to be dealing with. One of the best ways you can boost the performance of your systems is by running through an effective pipe maintenance checklist each year.

Reduce the risk of costly problems

It doesn’t take much for minor plumbing problems to snowball into much bigger issues. For example, a small leak that goes undetected could turn into a burst pipeline that causes serious damages that are costly to remedy. If this issue is caught in its beginning stages thanks to your maintenance processes, you can prevent this from happening.

Lengthen the lifespan of your assets

When you look after your pipes, it can reduce the amount you need to spend on repairs and keep your assets viable for longer. Take a blocked drain – when this is cleared out it reduces the pressure on your pipes and keeps things running smoothly.

Be prepared for extreme weather

Extreme weather is unpredictable, so you want your pipes to be ready for anything. A lot of homes and businesses were impacted by major rainfall and flooding throughout 2022, so stormwater systems have a major part to play in avoiding or minimising damages. Ensuring important systems like this are in top condition can help put you in the best position and get your assets prepared for whatever comes their way.

Your plumbing maintenance checklist

Now that you know why you should conduct regular pipe maintenance, let’s discuss what you should do. These are our top 5 tips for ensuring your systems are ready for the year ahead.

1. Check for damage

We’ve established that regular pipe maintenance can help stop minor issues from becoming something more serious, so inspecting them for visible damage should be high on your list. Failure to do so could impact your water quality and cause contaminants to enter your water supply. Small cracks can also act as an entry point for tree roots to invade and clog your systems.

Make sure you check for cracks, holes and any other problems. You can use a flashlight to look inside and gain some visibility. It’s also a good idea to call in a professional to do this for you. Nuflow uses industry-leading CCTV technology in our inspections, which allows us to clearly identify the cause and location of any problems.

2. Test for leaks

Leaking pipes are a common problem. They can cause water waste, mould growth, low water pressure and, in extreme cases, structural damage to your home or business. An obvious sign is water stains on walls, floors or ceilings, along with dripping taps. You can also use leak detection kits or turn off your water supply and check your meter. From there, you can call in a professional to help remedy the problem.

3. Get things cleaned and cleared

Clogs and blocked drains are often caused by the build-up of everyday debris like dirt, hair, soap scum, or grease and oil. It’s unavoidable that these items will make their way into your pipes, but you can stop them from majorly impacting your systems.

Start the year with regular cleaning that clears out this debris and minimises the build-up within your pipes. As things make their way into your systems, there’s less for them to add to and thus less chance that your pipes will become clogged. At Nuflow, we make use of a high pressure cleaner that blasts away any blockages and leaves your pipes clear.

4. Inspect your water pressure

Problems with water pressure can be caused by a variety of issues, including obstructions, leaks, corroded pipes or even damage to your water main. When left unchecked, unbalanced water pressure can cause burst pipes and very high water bills. That makes it important to keep an eye on your water pressure.

You can do this by inspecting your taps and showerheads, or even using a pressure gauge on your pipe valves. If you do notice an issue, you should contact a professional to inspect your pipes and remedy the source of the problem.

5. Inspect for corrosion

Aging and corroded pipes can be your worst enemy. Not only do they impact how well your systems function, they have a high risk of bursting. Signs of a corroded pipe might be blue or green deposits, rust, or just general wear and tear. If you see any indication of this, you should contact a professional to get things fixed.

Rather than paying for the expense of a full replacement, you can contact Nuflow and enquire about pipe relining. This no-dig solution creates a new, stronger pipe within your aging assets and can even improve your flow rates. We have a range of products suited to different assets, and we’ll use our expertise to find the best fit for you.

With a new partnership that has unlocked a portfolio of exciting commercial and civil projects, Nuflow Manawatu is ready to pump new life into its region’s aging infrastructure.

Nuflow Manawatu has recently launched a partnership with Semtex, a local plumbing company that specialises in commercial and civil project contracting. Semtex boasts a collective 200 years of combined industry experience in plumbing, gas, drainage and civil pipelaying. As well as serving the Manawatu region, it operates New Zealand-wide on a number of key specialist contracts.

According to Managing Director, Matthew Nieper, the partnership will bring a new area of proactive, new-age plumbing and relining solutions that are crucial to Manawatu’s pipe infrastructure and its residents.

“We’re really excited to partner with Semtex. Nuflow will be able to lend its expertise to a whole new range of commercial and civil projects, and Semtex will have access to our market-leading relining solutions and pipe inspection technology.

“Ultimately, this is guaranteed to benefit local government, businesses and residents, as we’ll be able to provide modern solutions to monitor, assess and repair even more damaged or aging pipes in the area.

“It’s especially exciting as our solutions are cutting edge, and aren’t yet mainstream or highly available to the Manawatu area. We’ll be able to help shape the region with pipes that are more durable, resilient and efficient than ever before,” Matthew said.

Nuflow is best known for its specialist relining services that repair and rehabilitate pipes by creating a ‘pipe within a pipe’. This is created with an epoxy liner that bonds to the host pipe’s interior wall, sealing and protecting the system from further deterioration while dramatically extending the life of the piping system. Nuflow boasts a range of products that have been developed in-house by the company’s own research and development team, all with special applications to cover all types of problems. ‘Greenline’, for example, is AS/NZ 4020: 2005 approved and deemed safe for drinking water, while ‘Ultraline’ contains a specialised UV resin which cures with an LED Ultra Violet light.

Nuflow’s unique approach is all about providing non-invasive, low impact plumbing solutions that make it easier to be proactive rather than reactive. One of their key services is CCTV inspection, which allows for a detailed, high-definition assessment of a pipe’s condition without needing to dig trenches and create unnecessary environmental or societal impact.

“Our team uses the latest IBAK Tractor Cameras and Pushreels, operated by ProjectMax CCTV trained operators, Matthew said.

“Paired with WinCan VX and WinCan Webflex Cloud Software, we’re able to generate professional reports and grade pipelines to NZPIM 4th Edition along with providing Laser Deformation and Inclination Reports from 50mm to 3000mm.”

Matthew said this CCTV and assessment technology, while not widely available, is becoming increasingly valuable to major commercial and civil projects. The approach allows for quick, accurate and low impact evaluation of the pipes before major project assets, like repair equipment, need to be on site. Ultimately, this helps government and commercial stakeholders to benefit from a significantly more efficient and cost-effective solution.

“Whether it be stormwater, drinking water or sewage, pipe infrastructure plays a crucial part in a modern, developed society. The trouble is that costs, logistics and societal impacts are major factors in deciding how and when to maintain critical pipe infrastructure.

“A potential issue may be left until it becomes an immediate problem that justifies the cost, labour and time to excavate and make the necessary repairs. By then, it might be too late,” Matthew said.

This is particularly important for the aging pipe infrastructure in the Manawatu region, which has the potential to impact water quality and environmental health.

Nuflow’s CCTV solutions are able to view pipes with minimal impact, providing a clear view of issues underground so that reliable and accurate condition reports can be done efficiently and more frequently. This is expected to help increase the frequency of assessments every year, allowing local councils to keep a closer eye on the conditions of pipes that serve their communities.

“At Nuflow Manawatu, we’re eager to deploy this technology more frequently so we can be more proactive with how we maintain our critical pipes. Everyone should have the right to clean drinking water and a reliable sewerage system, and our goal is to ensure this is a pillar for the region.”

Keeping pipes and plumbing in good shape is a cornerstone of society. Where would we be without running water, flood mitigation and effective sewage management? With such an important responsibility, Nuflow invests heavily in advanced technology, sustainability, and customer satisfaction to come up with cutting-edge plumbing and relining solutions.

It’s what makes being part of the Nuflow team such a rewarding franchise opportunity – the chance to be a part of a movement that sets a new standard and changes the way our plumbing sector operates.

What makes Nuflow a unique franchise opportunity

Challenging the old ways

Traditional pipe replacement and servicing can be costly and time consuming. This is largely due to conventional practices that are based on replacing old or damaged pipes, which requires excavation, new materials and labour.

Conventional practices can also be disruptive and impactful to property, landscaping, the environment and day-to-day activity. Depending on the location of the issue, excavation and pipe replacement can also be incredibly invasive and cause future issues for surrounding structures if not done correctly.

New technology and continuous R&D

Nuflow takes plumbers away from excavation and replacement. With our cured-in-place-pipe (CIPP), or ‘pipe within a pipe’ approach to relining we’re able to minimise disruption to properties, reduce costs and extend the lifespan of existing pipes. This makes CIPP an ideal option for addressing various plumbing issues like leaks, cracks, corrosion, and structural damage in sewer, water and even gas pipelines.

What makes our CIPP delivery particularly unique is that we are the only Australian reliners who develop our own resins and materials. Our products, from Blueline to our Sumoline manhole rehabilitation solutions, are produced through a dedicated team of Nuflow chemists and engineers, who create the resins in-house to be readily available to our franchise partners. This week is Australian Made Week, a time to celebrate and support local makers and growers while demonstrating the benefits of buying Australian-made products.

This is especially relevant for us at Nuflow. As a local company supporting local jobs, industries and economies, we pride ourselves on our locally developed and manufactured products. These products are backed by an Australian-based team of scientific, engineering and technical experts, as well as testing, training, and production teams. This allows us to custom-design products for scenarios specific to our local climate and infrastructure.

There has been a lot of hard work and development that has gotten us to this point. That is why we’re celebrating Australian Made Week by sharing the history of these products and looking back on the journey up till now.

Where it all began

The foundations of the Nuflow story begin in 1998 in Canada, where the company was founded. They had developed an epoxy lining of pipes within domestic, single-dwelling buildings. Then in 2000, the ‘sleeve-within-a-sleeve’ method using an inflatable bladder was patented. No sooner had Nuflow begun licencing his technology, than it caught the attention of Gold Coast businessman and plumber, Ed Ahern.

Ed saw the vast potential of Nuflow’s solution and sought to develop and adapt it for Australia. In 2004, he launched Nuflow Australasia and entered markets across Australia, New Zealand and Thailand. A patent was granted the following year for a process that enabled lining around multiple bends, further expanding our capabilities.

This led to Nuflow’s Australian operations receiving an AS/NZ 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems (QMS) accreditation. This is awarded to businesses whose QMS is able to meet customer and regulatory expectations at an exceedingly high standard. Receiving this accreditation empowered us with greater credibility within the market which inevitably led to an increased demand for our services.

This set us toward the Nuflow you know today. Thanks to the growing demand, Ed was able to establish a research facility in 2012 where he appointed scientific and engineering experts to improve the technology and accompanying processes further. This made Nuflow the only Australian pipe relining company with the capacity to design, manufacture and install our own epoxies, lining materials and certain specialist installation equipment. With research, development, and manufacturing all under one roof, we could expand our offerings and create a more comprehensive product portfolio to meet a wider variety of needs.

Bringing innovative Australian-made products across the nation

At that point, Ed had been licensing the technology his team developed to various plumbing companies across the nation. However, he realised that Nuflow had the potential to deliver quality, no-dig relining solutions to more people if we operated under a franchise model. So, in 2018 he did just that.

As a franchise, we flourished into a much larger team of committed and passionate professionals. We were able to extend our coverage and build confidence within water and council authorities, as well as hydraulic consultants and engineers. This growth led to the introduction of specialised technical, training and development courses, which has allowed our teams to grow and embrace more advanced installations.

As capabilities increased, the research and development team were able to design more advanced materials and solutions for more complex problems. This began with Blueline as the core CIPP product and has since led to acid-resistant and underwater resins with a variety of curing times. Throughout our product expansion, Nuflow developed Water Mark approval for both Blueline and Redline products, while also working on the Australian standard committee to develop installation standards for AS3500. This demonstrates our evolution into trusted industry leaders.

Investing in innovation

Today, innovation is our guiding ethos. We heavily invest in ongoing research and product development, which has established us as market leaders in the pipe relining industry. The extensive training, education and ongoing support our franchisees receive allow us to deliver high-quality, tailored relining solutions that align with the requirements of local assets.

We are proud to back our Australian-made products with a manufacturer guarantee of up to 50 years, and we are confident in the longevity of our innovative solutions.

What’s next

We will continue to push to new frontiers for what our products are capable of. We are always developing new application systems, curing methods and relining composites to improve our delivery and expand our capabilities.

In fact, our research and development teams are currently tapping into UV-curing technology with the hope to roll it out soon. This will provide new, more streamlined solutions for complex issues and allow us to reach a solution faster. We are also beginning to roll out a new application process Nu Coat, which allows the resin to be sprayed onto the pipe as a great solution for smaller assets.

As more pipe problems are solved with our products, we will continue to grow, evolve and expand into new markets.

Leverage these Australian-made products for yourself

Buying locally is always better. Our products are specifically manufactured and assembled for Australian climates and infrastructure, with the ability to be adapted to your specific needs locally. No matter if you’re a residential, commercial, or industrial client, we have the solutions to help. Reach out to us today.

We all like a clean and healthy home without a cockroach in sight. But just because you haven’t seen any indoors doesn’t mean they aren’t making themselves comfortable somewhere on your property. In fact, your pipes can be one of their favourite places to hide. Just look at this viral footage from a home we inspected on the Gold Coast a few years ago.

Gross right? Unfortunately, this skin-crawling situation isn’t as rare as you would hope. We often see cockroaches inside pipes of all kinds, from manholes to sewer systems. When left unchecked, this can turn into a big problem for homeowners. Luckily, there are things you can do to avoid a full-scale infestation like the one in the video.

Let’s delve a little deeper into this creepy-crawly problem and uncover the best way to get rid of cockroaches.

Why are cockroaches attracted to pipes?

Cockroaches are nocturnal, and they love making themselves at home in damp, dark spaces with a water and food source nearby. Sewers, storm drains and other piping systems offer the conditions that cockroaches thrive in, as well as decaying organic matter that serves as their sustenance.

Their desire to seek out these conditions can worsen in certain weather. When it gets particularly hot, they will often take shelter from the elements within your pipes, looking for a moisture source. Rain can also affect the cockroach population in your pipes. Wet weather means cockroaches and other insects will take refuge within your pipes and drains. Plus, flooding can push rubbish into waterways, creating more food sources for these bugs and attracting higher populations to your piping systems.

Why should I be concerned?

Aside from the ick factor, when cockroaches are left to run rampant, they may not stay out of sight and out of mind for long. They are fast-breeding, so the longer they’re left, the bigger their numbers grow and the higher the chances of a cockroach invasion. Plus, their exploratory nature means they might start taking up residence elsewhere – inside your home.

They can creep out of shower, kitchen and floor drains, laying eggs as they go and ending up all over your home.  And because cockroaches are so resilient, they can be very hard to get rid of when it gets to this point.

How do they get into my pipes in the first place?

Cockroaches will invade your pipes through various access points, including cracks, holes and any disjointed pieces. These generally occur when your pipes are in reactive soil that shrinks when it’s dry and expands when it’s wet. Otherwise, because tree roots are attracted to moisture and warm, damp soil, they can intrude your piping systems and grow inside, offering an access point to cockroaches. In times of flooding, they may also be washed inside your systems.

Cockroach pest control in your pipes

While there will always be some insects in your pipes, there are two main things you can do to minimise the number of cockroaches in your systems. One is to remove their food source, and the other is to seal off their entry points. By carrying out regular maintenance and timely repairs of your drains and pipes, you can make sure nothing is clogged and prevent the stagnant puddles they love to thrive in.

You should also keep an eye out for any signs of a crack or leak. Indicators include higher water bills, poor water pressure, loose fixtures, rust or mould. When you do notice something, get your pipes inspected and sealed. It’s also a good idea to get regular pipe inspections in general and keep your plumbing running smoothly.

Nuflow can help with this. We have quality CCTV pipe inspection technology (which you can see in practise in the video above) that we can use to make sure your pipes aren’t damaged. If we do notice any entry points and damage, we can get things fixed easily with our revolutionary pipe relining technology. This can structurally repair all sorts of water and sewage systems without you needing to replace your pipes. Not only is this less expensive, but it also reduces the amount of time your pipes are left open to invasion. The results will help limit bug access, and ensure your water flows at its maximum efficiency.

Reduce the risk of cockroaches in your house with Nuflow

Our experienced team is ready to help you get on top of your creepy crawly problem. For your peace of mind, we can inspect your pipes and show you the footage so you can gain some visibility of your piping systems. From there, we can fix any issues with your drains and pipes so your plumbing is optimised and primed for cockroach prevention. Get in touch with your local Nuflow team today.

Pipe relining is a seamless, straightforward answer to plumbing problems that can often get blown out of proportion. From small residential pipe problems, to large-scale commercial issues, pipe relining provides a solution that not only saves you money, but saves you the stress of an elongated, messy process.

Pipe relining origins

Just like any successful business in today’s world – innovation is a non-negotiable. Over the last couple of decades, breakthroughs in the science and engineering fields have resulted in advanced and environmentally-friendly pipe repair technologies that Nuflow is now renowned for. This technology has made it possible for broken pipes to be repaired from the inside, eliminating the need to dig up and completely replace the affected pipes.

Nuflow’s pipe relining methods

Pipe relining, or “trenchless repairs”, involves old pipes being left in place while new pipes made from tough, durable composite resin materials are formed inside or around the existing pipes. Mitigating the need to excavate, dig or destroy, trenchless repair strategies like cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) relining means more cost-effective and convenient solutions for broken pipes, resulting in significantly less environmental impacts.

The CIPP relining process

CIPP relining is one of the most popular ways to repair or rehabilitate pipes without digging and replacing. Essentially, advanced composite resin materials are inserted into failing pipes to repair damage, improve flow and extend the life of the pipe. For pipes that need structural strength (i.e. beneath roads or driveways), a liner infused with the resin is pulled into place before being cured into a cement-like structure.

For non-structural pipes like water pipes in ceilings or walls, the resin is blown into the pipe to cure, forming a new pipe lining that will keep it strong and functioning well for years.

These structural and non-structural relining methods are suitable for pipes carrying drinking water, waste and storm water, chemical (trade) applications, and grain, feed or sludge (industrial) applications.

At Nuflow, we understand that not all pipes are the same, which is why our pipe relining methods are tailored to suit each unique repair. We take into consideration the type of pipe, the climate, other environmental conditions, the operational needs of the client, and the built structures or services in the immediate area.

We use CCTV camera equipment to locate the problem area and where future pipe repair problems are likely to occur, providing you with a full discovery of the state of your pipes. We then use a variety of methods like water jetting and specialised plumbing tools to ensure your pipe is cleared and cleaned quickly and safely. Once your pipes are prepped, they’re ready to be relined with one of our four relining solutions:

Blueline®

Our structural solution suited to non-pressure drainage applications like stormwater pipes, sewer pipes, trade waste pipes, and more. It’s super versatile, and allows for sectional relining of any pipe length. Learn more.

Ultraline®

Our latest offering is a strong and lightweight fibreglass liner with an epoxy resin that is cured by an ultraviolet light train. The result is faster fixes and less time on site. We are currently using this technology for short patches on pipes of up to 150mm diameter, but we hope to be doing much larger projects soon.

Greenline®

This is also a structural pipe restoration solution. It’s used for high pressure main pipes, asbestos cement, UPVC, copper pipes, steel pipes and potable water pipes. It complies to international standards for drinking water, with the ability to withstand long term pressure of up to 1800kpa. Learn more.

Sumoline®

Our strongest CIIP relining system. It’s used on non-pressurised, built infrastructure with critical load bearing capacity, like bore storm water and sewer pipes, road and rail infrastructure, box culverts, and manholes. It can cure underwater, and will not shrink. Learn more.

The benefits of pipe relining vs replacing

From fixing leaks and preventing tree root intrusion, to stopping lead and other contaminates from leaching into water systems – the list of benefits goes on.

Pipe relining has a number of great structural and functional advantages. It’s suitable for situations where pipes have junctions, bends and transitions in diameter, while also possessing a number of convenience and environmental benefits. This includes eliminating the need for excavation or destruction that can cause damages, saving you a lot of time and money as well as saving the surrounding environment from disruption.

Most impressively, the pipe relining process leaves behind a final pipe that independent tests have shown has a greater strength and flow rate than the original pipe, and any other materials that might have been used to replace it.

Why you can rely on Nuflow relining

We back our technology and our installers – that’s why our Nuflow relining products come with warranties of up to 50 years*. This tried and tested solution can be the difference between waiting weeks for your pipes to be fixed, versus mere days. So, if you’re looking for an efficient, cost effective and environmentally friendly alternative to completely replacing your pipes, you know who to call.

The Bureau of Meteorology has officially declared that we are entering the third La Niña season in three years. This announcement means Australian property owners and local councils need to be prepared for heavy rainfall and the increased number of plumbing problems this brings.

To combat these issues and help protect homes and infrastructure, there are preventative measures that can minimise impacts and possibly prevent an emergency plumbing situation. When dealing with heavy amounts of rainfall, storm drains will be the saving grace of your local community. It’s important that you do what you can to ensure it’s working effectively.

What does La Niña mean for Australia?

This meteorological phenomenon is called El Niño-Southern Oscillation, and it has two opposite phases – El Niño (below average rainfall) and La Niña (above average rainfall).

La Niña occurs when east-to-west winds in the Pacific Ocean get stronger, changing ocean surface currents and increasing water temperatures. This pumps moisture into the atmosphere along the north and east coastlines. The right weather systems can tap into this moisture, resulting in cloudy skies, very heavy rainfall, and often storms, flooding, and coastal erosion.

While is it the north and east of Australia that is usually the most affected, this year climate drivers are also expected to bring heavy rainfall to the west.

The importance of a stormwater drainage system

During times of excessive rainfall like La Niña, stormwater drains will divert water away from properties or council land and back into waterways. This includes any runoff from roofs, streets, roads or even water flowing downhill.

Storm drains are designed to handle very large volumes which is why they’re so effective, but this also means it’s hard to tell there’s a problem until a heavy rain incident occurs. If things become blocked or aren’t working the way they should, the storm drain can overflow, flooding buildings and surrounding streets. However, by putting in effective preparation beforehand and performing maintenance on stormwater plumbing, you could help prevent or minimise costly damages.

How to ensure your storm drains are ready for La Niña

1. Clean your gutters

The goal of your gutters is to provide a path for rainwater to flow away from the roof, channelling it so it doesn’t make its way beneath the foundation of homes, infrastructure, or public buildings and weaken their structural integrity. Often, there will be downpipes that connect to roofs and flow directly into storm drains.

A clear gutter allows this water to flow freely along the intended path, whereas build-ups from leaves, dirt and debris can cause things to overflow. This can impact the effectiveness of stormwater systems, and when debris makes its way through the downpipes it can even contribute to blocking stormwater drains.

You should ensure your gutters are being regularly maintained to prevent these build-ups. This can be done with pressure cleaning, or by hand. You can also call in the professionals if you want a thorough job done.

2. Check your storm drains for blockages

As part of your maintenance, you should call in a local plumber to inspect your storm drains. Using CCTV equipment, they can examine the interior of your pipes and locate anything contributing to a blocked stormwater system.

Tree root intrusion is a common issue for inground pipes like the ones connected to storm drains. This is because roots are attracted to the moist soil surrounding the pipes, caused by condensation. The roots will enter the pipe through small cracks and grow inside, blocking them up without you even knowing. Other blockages might just be caused by general debris build-up over time.

Once professionals know what the problem is, they can perform drain cleaning that will leave your stormwater plumbing as good as new and ready to feed water away from your property.

3. Inspect the age of your storm drains and pipes

If a stormwater system is old and deteriorated, it will likely struggle against the intense rainfall La Niña brings about. Aging pipes can burst under pressure, which would be catastrophic in a flooding emergency.

Plus, the ground moves a lot over time which can cause cracks or even collapse part of the pipeline. It could even just be a matter of the stormwater system consisting of outdated features that don’t offer the same benefits as modern plumbing technology.

Knowing all of this ahead of time means you can help prevent a potentially dire situation. With the same CCTV pipe inspection technology discussed above, professionals can examine the condition of your pipes and assess how likely they will hold up in extreme weather.

In the event that your system is unexpected to hold up, the best course of action is pipe relining. This will prevent costly excavations and all the other things that come with a full replacement. Nuflow’s CIPP pipe relining even offers better features than the original pipe, like improved structural integrity, better flow rates, and a longer life expectancy. Our products also have all accreditations needed for use in public and council infrastructure.

4. Ensure all sinks and drains are clear

While not connected to your storm drain, the sinks and drains inside your home should be kept clear. With the sudden, large amounts of water brought upon by storm season, you don’t want any of your plumbing lines to clog or overflow and add to the already significant volume your storm drains are transporting away from your home.

Nuflow can help you get set for La Niña season

Nuflow offers a range of premium plumbing and piping services that can help residential, commercial, or council properties prepare for the heavy rainfall expected to hit Australia over the coming months. Our top-of-the-line CCTV inspection technology will allow us to fully examine your pipes, and we can clear them with our high-pressure system.

If you’re in need of a reline, our expert technicians will assess your circumstances and work with head office to identify the best pipe relining materials to fit. Contact us today to start preparing.
